ITC Forum – Tourism and Communities (2007)
Community-based Tourism is one of the focus areas of ITC’s (International Trade Centre) Export-Led Poverty Reduction Programme (EPRP). Other focus areas are agriculture and textile products. The EPRP was created in 2002 as a practical response by the ITC to the United Nations Millenium Goals to reduce by half the number of people living in poverty by the year 2015.

Community-based Tourism aims to make tourism more profitable for local communities. Projects were set up in the following countries: Brazil ,Colombia, Djibouti, El Salvador, Mauritania, Mozambique, Senegal and Vietnam. The Brazilian project was on the Coconut Coast, were a lot of large-scale resorts have been set up.

Sustainable Tourism in the Pantanal (WWF Brazil - 2006)
Tourism study on the current status and potential of tourism in the Brazilian Pantanal and analysis of feasibility for an investment fund. Proposal of Development Road Map.

Brazil Sustainable Tourism Program (Instituto de Hospitalidade 2002 -2006)
This nationwide Program (PCTS-Programa de Certificação em Turismo Sustentável in Portuguese) was coordinated by the Instituto de Hospitalidade (IH) in partnership with the Brazilian Council for Sustainable Tourism (CBTS) and received supportfrom the Brazilian Export Agency (APEX-Brazil), the InterAmerican Development Bank (IADB), Brazil’s Ministry of Tourism and Brazil’s Small Company Support Service (SEBRAE). IH is a member of the Global Sustainable Tourism Partnership

Working with key tourism stakeholders, the Program developed a Sustainable Tourism Standard for Accommodations, Good Practice Manuals and Training Courses for business owners and consultants, support for international promotion. More than 800 companies registered for the program.

EcoBrasil professionals were members of the executive team from 2002 to 2006. The program continued as Bem Receber, incorporating professional qualification in 2007.
